Pence calls on Hoosiers to contribute to tsunami relief effort
As I’m sure you know by now, the most powerful earthquake in 40 years rattled the island of Sumatra 9 days ago, setting off a chain of destructive Tsunami waves for hundreds of miles. The death toll and destruction are incomprehensible, and the relief effort enormous.
President Bush has responded to this global tragedy by pledging millions of U.S. dollars for the relief effort and calling on former presidents Bush and Clinton to lead an effort to raise private funds from American citizens.
I applaud the president’s leadership during this crisis and echo his call for all Hoosiers to give, as they are able, to the relief efforts being carried out from Thailand to Africa. As the president pointed out, America’s greatest source of generosity is not our government, but the goodwill of our people.
If you have interest in giving to the relief cause, you can find out how to do so by going to www.usafreedomcorps.gov.
- Mike Pence
