Thoughts at the close of the 108th Congress
As we prepare this week to wrap up legislative business for the 108th Congress, we have an opportunity to reflect on work accomplished over the past two years and look ahead to tomorrow’s tasks.
The Republican majority in the 108th Congress has enacted multiple tax cuts allowing people to keep more of their hard-earned money, promoted a culture of life by banning the abhorrent practice of partial-birth abortion, and provided record levels of funding to keep our homeland secure and fight terrorism abroad.
As chairman of the conservative House Republican Study Committee, I intend to do all I can in the upcoming 109th Congress to fight for principles of fiscal discipline, traditional family values, and a strong national defense. These are the principles that won Republicans the majority in Congress ten years ago, and they must continue to be at the heart of our expanded majority in the years ahead.
